A Comment on the Current Situation

I’m writing this on February 24th, 2024, two years ago, Russian troops invaded Ukraine, and initiated a fundamental change in the security of the free world.

Actually, the invasion started ten years ago when the Russians illegally  invaded and occupied the Crimean peninsula and supported the so called ‘insurrection movement’ in the Eastern provinces of Ukraine. This initiated a proxy war, the Russians denied any involvement, but we all know that this is the Russian ‘Modus Operandi’ when they intend to take over a territory.

We Support Ukraine!

The Emergency Response Process has three basic stages:

Notification stage

 - from the accident to alerting the Emergency Organization.

 - from the accident to alerting the Emergency Organization.

You will need a reliable alerting/callout system that musters your ER staff as quickly as possible. The system should also be able to keep track of your decisions, actions, and contacts.

Activation stage

- when the Emergency Response Organization is in action.

- when the Emergency Response Organization is in action.

Who does what? What is the line of command? Somebody has to take care of business continuity while the Emergency Organization is operating, so it\’s important to select the ER team with great care.

Post-Emergency stage

 - the follow up work after an emergency/accident:

 - the follow up work after an emergency/accident:

Rebuilding the customer\’s confidence in your company by proper and generous care of  survivors and their Next-of-Kin. Also, ensure proper handling of claims and long term support.

My name is Staffan Nelsson. I am a former employee of Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), I retired from my position as Senior Advisor in the Emergency Response Planning unit in December 2010. I am an airline professional with 33 years of experience within many parts of the business: - Ground Transportation - Business Support Services - Editor and Manager of Technical and Flight Operations Manuals, - Project Manager in the Alliances and Partnerships Department, - Director of Management Coordination in the SAS International Sales and Operations, - Senior Advisor Emergency Response Planning. During my years in SAS, I have participated in many internal and external training courses and seminars, leadership development programs and have a Certificate from the IATA Emergency Planning and Response Management Training. I worked behind the scenes in an administrative role in the Post Emergency voluntary work after the SAS accident in Milano, Italy October 2001. This raised my awareness of the importance of Emergency Response Planning, and how vital it is that an airline performs  in a professional manner to take care of the affected passengers, staff, next-of-kin. When I was offered a role in this department, I didn't hesitate to take on the challenge of further developing the processes and setup to streamline the organization to a changing environment. Since 1985, I have actively worked with computers - hardware and software, document management systems, etc. These years of experience have given me an intuitive approach to IT and its capabilities. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Sinology and Economic History from the University of Stockholm. In 1974. I am a cosmopolitan Swede - I was born in China , grew up in Hong Kong and Malaysia, and moved to Sweden in my late teens.
